A Disaster Afteroon with Whipping Cream Pound Cake

What an unlucky afternoon!  I couldn't believe I could fail this recipe twice ...Today is not Friday of thirteen, why I had such a bad luck again and again!  It makes me very upset and moody :(


The first time I failed this cake, I blamed it on the recipe because there was an error, one of the ingredient, the whipping cream, was double in amount, as a result, the cake turned out very oily and dense.   Since this recipe was very highly rated by many bloggers, I decided to give another shot.  However, the texture didn't improve much in my second attempt, it's still so dense from my perspective although it's less oily this time round.  It's not the type of texture I was expecting ... not sure where go wrong!! Sigh.. waste my time, effort and money!  
Anyway, twice is enough! No more chance given to this recipe.  Period!

Happy Birthday and Father's Day !!!

 
A simple but meaningful celebration last week for my hubby's birthday as well as Father's day. Happy Birthday Dear!  Thanks for standing by me all these while ...

Because of busy work schedule, I wasn't able to spare too much time to plan and prepare.   I only made a durian layered cream cake since it's my hubby and his family's favorite.
 
No big meal, just a simple lunch at my in-law place... Hope all the fathers out there enjoyed their big day one way or another!

Green Tea Chiffon Cake

This cake was baked prior to my Phuket Vacation.  Originally, it was just a plain green tea chiffon, I found it too boring, therefore coated a layer of fresh cream trying to spice up and boost  its taste.  However, something still lacking ...

Probably, I should spread some cooked red bean in between as a lot of recipes calls for it but I was too lazy to go through the process!  Anyway, since I hadn't been experimenting new recipe for a while, it's a good try!

Recipe adopted from Wen's Delight.

Ingredients:
(A)   
5 Egg yolks
80g Sugar

(B)
100g Fresh Milk      }microwave 20sec
50g Sunflower oil   }

(C)
110g Top flour                                                       } sift together
1/2 tsp Baking powder                                       }
2tsp Green tea powder (from Phoon Huat)  }
1/2 tsp Vanilla paste
1 tbsp Rum liquor
A pinch of salt


(D)
5 Egg whites
70g Sugar

Method:
(For 21-22cm chiffon mould)
Preheat oven at 170*C


1. Whisk (A) till the egg yolks turn creamy pale yellow colour about 3mins. 
2.  Microwave milk and oil for 20 sec and then add into step (1). 
3.  Sift flour, baking powder and green tea together and then add into step 2.  
4.  Follow by the rest of ingredient (C).  Mix well.  Set aside.
 5. Whisk (D) at max speed untill stiff.
5. Add in 1/3 meringue into mixture (3) and fold well.
7. Pour this mixture back to the balance meringue and fold well till the mixture is smooth flowing and glossy.
8. Pour into a clean ; grease free 21-22cm chiffon mould and bake for 50-55 mins. Bang the mould before going into the oven to release excess air. 
8. When the cake is cooked, invert the cake to cool. Remove the cake from the cake pan when it is completely cool. Optional - Cream the cake with whipped cream.

For decoration (optional):
200g Whipping cream 
1-2 thbsp kirsh/Rum liquor
1/2 tsp Vanilla

Back in Phuket May 2011

Although I had been back from a short trip from Phuket more two weeks, I had so much to cope at work and the enthusiasm of updating my blog had been fading.  Hope it's just a temporary phase else...    The Phuket trip was great although too short (always!), Marriott Vacation Club was really a fantastic hotel to stay,  we had such a wonderful moment together and I shall let the pictures to do the talking ..
 
A friend raved about this Marriott Vacation Club so much to me.  The promotion was really attractive, you just needed to pay US$250 for 3 nights.  Each villa could accommodate up to 6 persons, it had 2 rooms, a living hall, a dinning hall and a kitchen.  However, the only caveat was this came with a presentation sales talk and if you were not keen in joining the time sharing scheme, you needed to know how to push back.   My hubby wasn't interested but since my elder daughter missed our previous trip, I took this opportunity to bring her here ...
 

A revisit to Phuket Fantasea, although I didn't feel the show as exciting as before, hope my elder daughter and her bf enjoyed and found it interesting...
 

I wanted to explore other islands  instead of Phi Phi this round, therefore speeding off to James Bond Island ...we enjoyed the great scenery of many islands eg. Hong Island,  James bond Island, Panyee Island, Naka Island with great and relaxing canoeing experience ...
 
 

Enjoyed a delicious dinner at a local restaurant near Marriott hotel, unfortunately, we got attacked by the mosquito and brought back many bites :(

Another eventful day in Phuket ..We rented a car and drove around Karon Beach, Promthep Cape and Patong Beach areas.  White sands, sea wave, beautiful beaches and charming sunset.... that's what we could remember ...

We ended our day with a scrumptious dinner at a fine Thai cuisine restaurant at Patong Beach and before returning back to Marriott Vacation Club Resort, we passed through the busy street to let the kids to get a glimpse of the famous Patong Beach nightlife ...

The 4 days/ 3nights trip in Phuket had finally came to the end.  It's time to say goodbye and I think I may come back again in future ...
